CVCF Gym Update – 4/26/20
I hope everyone is having a great start to their Sunday morning, and hopefully you were able to enjoy that AMAZING sunshine yesterday. Dani and I are so excited for the warm weather, and very much looking forward to getting the mats pulled out behind the gym and working out in the sunshine in the near future. I just wanted to send everyone a quick note to give a little update on where we are at.
Well, there isn’t much to update unfortunately. You all I’m sure know just as much as we do in terms of the running of our state and country, but here are a few things we’re working on and also planning for.
- We applied for a PPP Loan on April 6th, we finally heard from the bank that the loan had finally been underwritten as of Friday, and is now waiting in a queue to be submitted to the SBA. We are hoping that it gets in in time before money runs out again, which the media has been reporting is likely to happen quickly.
- Zoom Classes. As you guys hopefully all know, at this point we’ve added a few Zoom Classes. We’ve kept it to a smaller class amount as we’re seeing and reading from almost all other gyms who have been running Zoom Classes from the get go and are running multiple a day are getting anywhere from no attendees now to it seems the average high is around 5. We want to keep these “special” and low in quantity so we can actually get some people working out together, and since it seems like many of you also like to watch us suffer, Dani and I aren’t looking to hit 5 training sessions a day :-). From the feedback we’ve gotten from you guys, this blend of a few Zoom sessions and the programming and demo videos seems to be a good combo. We’ll plan on hosting Zoom sessions going forward M/T/W @ Noon, and Saturday’s “Power Hour” @ 9:00 AM. The Zoom sessions will all continue to be EMOTM formatted so that everyone can do the workout in unison.
- Softgoods. If you ordered some in the first wave, they should be arriving to you tomorrow or Tuesday. The next wave of orders will go in tomorrow morning, so place your order by the end of today if there is something you want. Link to order is HERE.
As we look to the future we are still pretty uncertain of what to expect. At this point the state hasn’t released very much information. We know construction crews have gone to teams of 5, and farmers markets are opening as of May 1st. Aside from the Federal guidelines, which has oddly I think included gyms in the first wave of businesses to open we haven’t seen anything from the state in terms of when Fitness facilities might open up again.
Something Dani and I have been discussing frequently, and we want you all to be aware of, is the unfortunate fact that when we do get to open up the gym again, things will likely be very, very different. We are already trying to rap our heads around how to stay in business with just 10 people in the gym at a time, which seems a likely restriction, as we can’t physically get the same amount of people through the door with this restriction even if we have classes/sessions essentially on the hour throughout the day. Currently there is a lot of unknown which has probably left us with the most concern, we don’t know how we’ll get to run our business. With Georgia being the first state to already open (we have some friends who own a very successful affiliate there who won’t be opening until Mid-May), we’ve already seen the detailed guidelines from them, one of which is that no group fitness classes will be allowed to run initially. We’re guessing given Georgia is the first state to open, other states will likely start to model requirements and decisions based off of what they do and what happens there.
So we are fully prepared to essentially have to re-design how our business runs, this will include everything from programming, structure of the gym, attendance, billing, etc. The more science based articles I read, the more it becomes apparent that we are very likely going to have to deal with this situation for upwards of the entire next year in some manner. This may mean that we’re capped on people in the building, segmented training spaces for the people in the building, for the foreseeable future. As more information gets released over the coming weeks, we’re planning and hoping to be able to craft a plan that still allows as much training as possible within CVCF, while trying to keep the business a-float and also abiding by the state/federal guidelines/rules.
As we come into May we hope to be back in the gym sometime this month, but there really hasn’t been any clear direction of when things will happen. We will keep you abreast of any information that is released that is imperative to our specific situation. In the meantime we GREATLY appreciate your continued support. We plan to continue providing programming, video content, and Zoom session to keep everyone engaged. As we do roll into a new month if any of you need changes to your memberships, holds, etc. please let us know. We’ve had a handful of members lose their employment or get heavily decreased hours and we have put their accounts on hold. So if you are in a position where you’ve been financially affected please let us know and we’ll hold your account until further notice.
As we chug along through the coming weeks or month we hope you all do what you can to keep yourself healthy both physically and mentally. Keep getting outside when you can especially in the sunshine, eat healthy food, it makes such an amazing difference in your overall health and well being, keep training, and use these and other health related tools and stimuluses to more than anything, show your body some RESPECT…my experience is when you do it usually shows you some gratitude in return.
If you guys have any thoughts, questions, concerns, etc. please don’t hesitate to reach out. Enjoy your Sunday.
