CrossFit In Vermont: Friday, January 8th, 2010
So sore this morning. My calves are still destroyed from Wednesday, and the bottom of my feet are actually pretty sore as well. My lats are more worked today, I would imagine from the muscle-up progressions, my quads are a bit sore, and my traps are absolutely destroyed from the deads yesterday. Overall my body is beat. I ate really well yesterday, I did have one beer while watching the football game, but other than that I was clean. I definitely think my body is beaten up a little at this point. I slept in a little late this morning, and woke up just feeling sore and beat. Wasn’t feeling to motivated to go to the gym but I still did and I’m super happy that I did.
WOD:
Olympic Work:
Snatch: 95×3, 105×3, 115×3, 125×3, 135×3
Power Work:
Super set of
Plyo Push-ups: 10, 10, 10
12lb Medicine Ball Slams: 10, 10, 10
Absolutely ecstatic about the snatches. This was only my 3rd time doing barbell snatches. Previously my 3 rep max was 105, so I hit a 30lb PR today. I actually dropped the weight on the first rep of 95, and I was like, “oh crap, maybe my training hasn’t been diverse enough.” Well it was definitely a balance problem, I dropped the first attempt at 105 as well, but after that it was smooth sailing. I went into the gym hoping to hit 115, thinking I would be pumped if I could 1 rep max 135. I was so surprised to see the weight I was able to put up. Although my technique probably isn’t anything to write home about I was going through the entire movement, I was doing legitimate snatches. Pulling the bar up to almost chin level, flipping it up, and catching in the bottom of the overhead squat. There was no press out and each rep was caught at the very bottom of the squat, actually for a number of the reps I ended up in a squat considerably lower than I would normally be in just doing overhead squats for reps. I wish I had a place where I could practice these and not have to worry about dropping the weight. I’m still working with metal plates at my school gym. I think I’ll just have to stay to the 3 rep range on these guys, but I’m definitely curious as to what my max is now. I’d like to think I could hit 145, maybe even 155. Either way a good bit ahead of where I thought I would be.
Although I was buzzing from the snatch work I was definitely feeling the overall tiredness of my body, I was almost going to head out of the gym, but knew I needed to do a little more work. The 3 supersets were awesome. Haven’t done plyo push-ups in a while. I forgot how well they work you chest. Chest was really feeling it, and holy hell my lats were feeling the med-ball slams. My body is cooked and 2 days of rest is going to feel very good. Looking forward to a good weekend of healthy eating and rest, and then back at it on Monday. Cheers.
