North East Regionals Days 2 & 3
Wow, so Regionals are over, and, Champlain Valley CrossFit finished 3rd place to secure a trip to the CrossFit Games. It was an amazing weekend with up and downs, laughter and seriousness, and maybe a little bit of stress, but the team went in and did what they had to to move on to the big show. Congratulations guys.
WOD #3
We knew this would be a good workout for the team and Dani and Del did exactly what they needed to. They absolutely crushed the workout and blew away the time we had done in practice. Only 1 second behind the previous fastest time in the world, and that’s with Del doing an extra Snatch on his first and second round and a burpee. 3rd fastest in the world guys, 2nd for the event. Check the video below, excuse the language.
WOD #4
This was a tough workout for the team, and given the extremely tight points race we couldn’t drop far behind Southie or Milford. Everyone stuck to the game plan, following reps that we had written out and assigned before hand and left no room for a better score. Hot fresh pull-ups bars left many peoples hands shredded, and unfortunately Nate, our pull-up beast did his hands in forcing him to have to break down his sets a little bit. Fortunately the group didn’t panic and was able to hold on enough to finish 9th out of the 29 teams.
WOD #5
This was a nerve racking one to watch. So much precision is involved in the Snatch and one small error could have a missed lift and low total. Everyone held their cool though and hit what they needed to, to total a bigger than practice 1065 final score which put us in 2nd place for the event. Courtney hit 105 and almost had 115 which would have been a PR, Laura hit 125 which was huge as she had only hit it a couple of times in practice, Dani tied her PR at 160, Power Snatching all the way through 150 for a 15lb PR on her Power Snatch. The guys laid it down as well, while Nate almost gave me a heart attack missing the 155lb bar his first attempt, he quickly composed himself and nailed it, finishing out at 175lbs and almost making the 185lb bar. Del and Nate moved far up the ladder with Del topping out at 245lbs and Trevor hitting a 10lb PR for 255lbs.
WOD #6
Going into workout #6 we were still sitting in 4th place, 1 point behind 3rd. We had to beat 3rd place by at least 2 places, if we tied them for points they would win the tie breaker as they had won an event. We were extremely confident about this workout as we had killed it in practice and were going in it with the mindset of winning the workout. Unfortunately the Wall Balls and Muscle-ups decided they would have otherwise, and left me pulling my hair out and screaming to the very end. When all was said and done we finished 8th, with 9th place coming in just after us, and 10th place being CrossFit Milford who had been sitting in 3rd place one point ahead of us. We made the 2 point difference and leap frogged up to 3rd place, securing it by just 1 point. WOW!.
It was an amazing weekend, and I’m still recovering from it and I didn’t even do anything. Thank you to the entire gym for your support, we couldn’t have done it without you all, it was amazing to have so many of you down at the event.
