1 Week Down – Gym Updates
I hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather today before we plunge back into winter tomorrow, kidding, kind of.
Going to start this e-mail off with something a little different. I truly believe in our facility and members as being a community, an incredibly tight knit one in many cases, so I feel despite the fact the we are a business I feel obligated to say something regarding this. Like many of the small business owners out there we are personally dealing with a large re-structure to how our business runs and I feel we are leaps and bounds ahead of where the other gyms in our area are when it comes to the function and setup of our business. As we’ve all started to be able to come out of our quarantine and start to get some normalcy in our life, I’m quite frankly taken aback and a bit dis-heartened by the almost immediate complaining by some individuals while in the gym. As people are dying from Corona Virus worldwide, cities are literally burning in response to continued social injustices that have been plaguing our society and world for far too long, and people are losing their jobs, savings, etc. Meanwhile we’ve had numerous people come to train and consistently complain because they don’t have the exact Dumbbell weight they want, or they didn’t get the station in the specific area they wanted to work in. An enormous amount of people in our world are currently dying, becoming homeless because of loss of jobs, the list goes on. So, first we’d ask, please, put things in perspective, there are people out there who are starting to be evicted from their homes, have lost their jobs, have no money, are possibly dying, and you’re complaining about the Kettlebell weight you don’t have. Second, over the almost last 10 years we’ve been open, CVCF has notoriously been known for one of the most well equipped gyms in the country. In fact, despite the fact that we are currently bleeding money like many small business owners and living off of our retirement account, we are doubling down, investing yet again, and buying more equipment to even further fill out the training stations as we hope and believe our business will get back to where it once was. So please, put things in perspective, you have more training gear offered to you here than likely any other gym in the state, and we are likely the 1% of what is available currently worldwide. If you don’t have the specific weights you want when you come in, use it as an opportunity to over-come some “adversity” and use something that might be a little harder than normal, or maybe even a little easier than normal. Cut your reps, or tack some more on, sweat it out and grind it out with a group of people that are here to train and work hard, regardless of what’s put in front of them.
Saturday Classes
Last Saturday our classes capped out, and our 8:00 AM class capped out very quickly this morning for tomorrow. 8:00 AM Saturday has always been a packed house at CVCF, and due to the restrictions we have on our traffic we can’t do that like we once did. So, we’re going to give this a go tomorrow, if it works out okay we’ll continue to do it, pending the weather. We’ve added an additional 8:00 AM time slot for tomorrow that will be outdoor only. If you sign-up for this slot please know you are one, working out outside, and two will be running if the workout calls for running, there will be no machine options outside, and you will be following the “Move” programming. If that works for you and you want to do that to free up a space for someone inside, that would be most appreciated. The workout for the “Move” programming tomorrow will call for just a single Dumbbell which we will be able to easily accommodate outside.
Sunday – Open Gym
A heads up for Open Gym Sunday. We will be doing this just as single session, so 23 spots for the day/2 hour block. We rarely get more than 20 people on Sunday’s so we feel this will be fine, however if we find we are consistently capped out we will turn this into two sessions. Because of the longer session time, this will be the ONLY training session of the week that we have an Open door policy. You will be able to show-up whenever you want, doors will open at 9:00 AM. We just ask that you please check-in with the coach when you come in if you aren’t coming in the door right at 9:00 AM.
Class Structure for Next Week
We’ve mentioned this to some of the classes in the last day or two. We are still trying to figure out the flow of the classes and timelines. We’ve found this week, that the extra time at the beginning of class is generally not needed as most people just stand around, and that the time at end of class has been not quite enough to pack-up, clean and get out the door, especially at the end of a brutal workout. So, we’ll be shifting a couple of the minutes from the pre-warm-up/class review and tacking them onto the back end of the class. There will now be 8 minutes before the Warm-up portion of the class starts, leaving you with 7 minutes at the end. We’ll also be continuing to modify the transitions blocks during the class as we see fit, as this past week we’ve found there seems to be way more than needed. By having all the gear in the training space, we’re finding this is definitely enabling a much swifter and tighter run class.
Bikes
We’ve noticed quite a few people have been riding their bikes to the gym which is awesome. We initially offered to let people put their bikes in the gym, but as 2, 3 or more people are showing up on their bikes for the same class we’re going to have to ask that you keep your bikes out back outside. You’re more than welcome to lock them to the Squat Rack if you’re concerned about someone grabbing them.
I think that’s all for the moment. Thank you for what has been a relatively smooth first week. If you have any questions regarding anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
